Email backup service

Email backup service

The email backup service uses your own email account to send backup files as attachments to your own mailbox. This keeps the backup files in an email account that you already control, giving you better privacy and full ownership of your backup data.

We care deeply about your privacy. The app will never upload your email address, and it will never misuse, collect, or steal your password.

Why you need an app password instead of your email password

Most email providers do not allow third-party apps to sign in with your normal email password. This is a common security policy that helps reduce the risk of password leaks and account abuse.

Because of this, you will usually need to create a third-party app password or client-specific password in your email account settings, and then use that password in the app instead of your regular email password.

Understanding the login parameters

  • IMAP server address: The server used to receive and read emails.
  • IMAP port: The network port used by IMAP. The default IMAP port is usually 993.
  • SMTP server address: The server used to send emails.
  • SMTP port: The network port used by SMTP. The default SMTP port is usually 465 or 587.
  • STARTTLS: A security feature that upgrades a plain connection to an encrypted TLS connection after the connection begins. If the SMTP port is set to 587, the app will enable and require STARTTLS by default.
  • Email address: The email account that sends the backup email and also receives it.
  • Third-party app password: A password generated by your email provider for external apps. In most cases, you cannot use your normal email password here, because providers usually block direct password sign-in for third-party apps for security reasons.
